Dr. Cooper has received 2 large awards from the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation spanning the length of 7 years in order to fund the Limb Lengthening Research Program that this website is constructed for.


Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), 2014 - 2023

Dr. Cooper has been awarded 2 awards for projects surrounding simple bone cyst in children and the improvement of treatment for Perthes disease (a rare orthopaedic condition) by advanced MR imaging.


E2i Seed Grant, 2021 - 2023

Awarded for the design and fabrication of patient-specific 3D printed foot prosthesis for patients with Fibular-Hemimelia.


CFRI Investigator Grant Award Program (IGAP), 2016 - 2021

Dr. Cooper is the first surgeon to receive the five-year investigator award from the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. This award has provided him with protected time for research.


St. Giles Young Investigator Award, 2018 - 2020

Awarded for his ongoing work involving the use of standing MRI scans to investigate the hip deformity in children with Perthes Disease.


Vilex Research Grant, 2018 - 2019

Awarded for overall research support for the Limb Lengthening and Research Program.


Evidence to Innovation Research Theme, 2018 - 2019

Awarded for a pilot study assessing the dynamic deformation of the femoral head during weight bearing in Perthes disease.


Canadian Orthopaedic Research Legacy Grant, Canadian Orthopaedic Association, 2017 - 2019

Awarded for the development of a Patient Reported Outcome Instrument for Children with Lower Limb Deformities.


Clinical Research Capacity Building Award, 2014 - 2019

Awarded by the Pediatric Orthopaedic Hip Research/Imaging Research Unit.


Rare Disease Grants, 2015 - 2020

Dr. Cooper has received 8 grants, over a period of 5 years, from the Rare Disease Foundation to support his ongoing work on various rare orthopaedic conditions.


UBC Plastic Surgery Academic Grant, 2016 - 2017

Awarded for the evaluation of accuracy for the Paley Multiplier Method to predict limb length discrepancy in populations with vascular anomalies.


University of British Columbia Orthopaedics Research Excellence Award, 2015 - 2017

Awarded for the development of a Patient Reported Outcome Instrument for Children with Lower Limb Deformities.


Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) Start-up Grant, 2015 - 2017

This grant was awarded to set up a multicentre database in RedCAP to record the Pin Site Infections in children undergoing limb reconstruction using an external fixator device.
